Southampton Solent University
In the late spring of 2008, Wessex Partnerships was asked to hold two training workshops for the benefit of community organisations working with Southampton Solent University. The need was developing skills required for funding applications; WPL prepared and delivered An Introduction to Project Development & Funding and Practical Bid Writing Skills.
The objectives of the workshops were to help participants to:
- define their activity in terms of a project
- know where to look for information on project funding sources
- prepare to write a funding application
- plan the process of submitting a funding application
- understand what a funding body looks for in a good funding application
- practice writing funding applications
Whether experienced with bid writing or not, all felt that understanding more about the process and learning new techniques would make them more successful when applying for funds. The feedback received from both the representative of the university and the learners indicated that the format, content and delivery of the training fulfilled the need precisely and had been very well received.
