Independent Arts, Isle of Wight

Independent Arts (IA) is a registered charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for people living on the Isle of Wight by providing access to therapeutic arts activities.

IA has built a successful track record over 20 years in the introduction and delivery of therapeutic arts activities for the elderly and people with physical and learning disabilities.  IA’s board of trustees agreed that 2010 was a good time to develop a 3 year Business Plan but felt they needed some external professional expertise.

With financial support from Business Link, Wessex Partnerships (WP) was commissioned to develop the business plan, the main purpose of which was to:

In order to ensure real input and ownership of the business plan with staff and trustees, WP facilitated a business planning day in January 2010.  The session proved very useful, enabling the project manager and trustees to agree on a shared vision supported by 8 strategic objectives.

The outcomes of the session, with further input from trustees and the project manager, enabled WP to develop a workable 3 year business plan that will help sustain the charity through a period of change. This included an outline marketing strategy, financial forecasts for service delivery, and an innovative approach to monitoring and evaluating the charity’s core services and projects.

“ The Business Plan devised by Wessex Partnerships has provided us with an extremely clear strategy for the next three years.   We all felt especially, that the planning workshop led by Robert and Louise was excellent and really gave Trustees and staff the opportunity to focus on the aims and objectives of the charity.  The whole process has been immensely helpful to us and we are now confidently implementing the first stages of the plan.”
