Highlighting Employment and Skills issues in Gosport

Wessex Partnerships worked with the Gosport Employment and Skills Partnership Board on a crucial piece of research to establish whether current skills and employment provision meets the skills needs of the adult population.

WP undertook several group-based discussions with members of the Partnership Board and local providers, meetings with Learning & Skills Council and Jobcentre Plus representatives.

WP also undertook a skills survey within each of the target employer sectors – advanced manufacturing, marine, retail, leisure & tourism, health & social care, and construction. Supported by desk-based research, this work provided a thorough picture of current employment and skills issues for the Gosport Borough.

The report’s findings were presented to the Board with a series of recommendations to improve employment and skills outcomes across the Borough.  The report identified both the skills needs and gaps in provision that need to be tackled. The key findings of the report and resulting recommendations were then used by the Board to inform the development of an Action Plan.

Lynda Dine, Head of Economic Prosperity, Gosport Borough Council and member of the Gosport Employment & Skills Partnership Board said, ‘Wessex Partnerships worked with us to produce an extremely useful piece of research that is now helping us to move forward as a Board.  A willingness to go the extra mile to meet our requirements, delivering on time and on budget, made for a great experience and I would definitely commission them again in the future.’
