DotComUnity Credit Union
DotComUnity (DCU) c.i.c. is a not-for-profit social enterprise established in 2009 to bring communities together and in particular serve the interests of people with learning and other disabilities.
As a membership organisation, DotComUnity provides a range of benefits for everyone in the UK with a learning or other disability, their families, carers and circle of support, all providers of health, welfare and social services and their staff.
Following a successful pilot, DotComUnity will launch its Credit Union in January 2012 to deliver safe and secure accounts, regulated by the FSA and protected under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
DCU Credit Union will offer its members a bespoke banking service, offering savings and loans as a real alternative to high street banks for both business and personal accounts.
As DCU members, individuals in any part of the UK can participate in the DCU Credit Union scheme.
DCU Credit Union has also developed a unique Managed Account service as an alternative method of managing personal budgets and administering direct payments for individuals currently supported through local authority budgets.
DCU is meeting with local authorities to discuss in more detail how the model works and the different ways it could best work to support council's personal account budget holders (users and their family members and carers) and providers.
