Age Concern Portsmouth

WP worked with Age Concern Portsmouth (ACP) to secure a £12,000 grant from Age UK’s Benefit Advice Programme. The grant will enable ACP to extend its benefits advice service to its new base at the Oasis centre, a well-known and easily accessible community facility in the centre of Portsmouth.

As well as providing information, advice and guidance on benefits, money and debt management, the recently opened centre also provides general information and advice, runs computer classes, foot care appointments and has a café.  It is expected that the range of services available at the Oasis Centre will reduce the financial and social exclusion faced by this elderly community and enable them to lead more independent and fulfilling lives.

In response to a challenging deadline, WP played a significant role in developing and writing the grant application.  Through research into existing statistics and strategies, WP provided the evidence to support the need for a dedicated benefits advice service in the Charles Dickens ward of Portsmouth.  WP staff also advised and helped develop the project objectives, the implementation and communication plans, the monitoring and evaluation procedures, and the future funding options.

Age Concern Portsmouth Chief Executive Kaye Checkley said, “we were delighted to win this grant and many thanks to Robert and Louise for their support.”
